How to convert CSV to Excel
- In Excel, choose Data, From Text/CSV, and pick your file.
- Set File Origin to 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) and check that the preview shows your columns split; if not, pick your file's separator under Delimiter.
- Click Transform Data, select each column holding codes with leading zeros or long IDs, and set its Data Type to Text.
- Click Close & Load.
- Choose File, Save As, Excel Workbook (.xlsx).
Or drop the file at the top of this page and skip these steps.
Questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted by this page inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why not just open the CSV in Excel?
Excel can turn 00123 into 123, long IDs into 1.23E+17 and accents into odd characters when it opens a CSV. This page keeps codes and IDs as text and makes numbers only of columns that hold plain numbers.
Will my accents and separators be read?
Yes. The page reads files saved as UTF-8 or in the older Windows format Excel uses, and it finds the separator (comma, semicolon, tab or bar) for you.
Is there a size limit?
Up to 50 MB per file. One Excel sheet holds at most 1,048,575 rows, so a longer file is refused: convert it to CSV instead. Nothing is ever cut short.
