Split full names into first and last
One Full name column, and your import wants two? Drop the file and First name and Last name appear right next to it.
Free, no sign-up. Your file is read in this browser tab and never uploaded.
How it works
- Finds the name column by its header, or by cells of two to five words.
- Takes the first word as the first name. A comma reads as Last, First. Particles like de, van der and del start the last name.
- Three or more words with no particle are split after the first word and marked Check, so you look at those rows. Names are never recased.
What it reads
Maria Garcia → Maria | GarciaRuiz, Ana → Ana | RuizAnna van der Berg → Anna | van der BergJuan de la Cruz → Juan | de la CruzMadonna → Madonna |Mary Jane Watson → Mary | Jane Watson (Check)
Your original column is kept. A single word goes to First name only.
Questions
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. The file is read by this page inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
- What about a name like Mary Jane Watson?
- The text alone cannot say whether Jane is a middle name. The first word becomes the first name and the row is listed under Check so you can fix it.
- Is there a row limit?
- No row limit. Files over 50 MB are refused because a browser tab runs out of memory.
