How to remove duplicates in Excel

  1. Make a copy of the sheet first: Remove Duplicates deletes rows for good.
  2. Click any cell in your table.
  3. On the Data tab, in Data Tools, click Remove Duplicates.
  4. Leave every column ticked to remove rows that repeat in full, or tick only the column to compare, such as Email.
  5. Click OK. Excel tells you how many duplicates it removed.

Is my file uploaded?

No. This page reads your file inside your browser tab, and nothing is sent to a server.

Which files does it take?

Excel workbooks (.xlsx) and CSV files up to 50 MB, with no row limit, and you download the same format back. Have an old .xls file? Open it in Excel and save it as Excel Workbook (.xlsx). The download holds the sheet you fixed, as values; other sheets, colours and formulas stay in your original file.

What counts as a duplicate?

A row whose every cell matches an earlier row, ignoring extra spaces and capitals, so "Ana@example.com " and "ana@example.com" match. Pick a column in "Keep one row per" to compare that column only. A row with only empty cells is always kept.

Which row is kept?

The first one, and the file keeps its order. To keep the last one instead, open More options.

How do I remove duplicate emails only?

Pick the email column in "Keep one row per". Each address then stays once, on its first row, even when the other cells differ.
